Keep Your Pet in a Comfortable Environment

As a pet owner, you must be conscious of your pet’s health because you are your beloved pet’s primary caregiver. Since your pets provide so much for you, it is only normal that you would want to provide them with the most comfortable environment possible. Here are some ways to ensure that your cat, dog or other type of pet is in the best environment possible.

Pet Boarding

Pet boarding services are suitable for pets whose owners are unavailable to take care of them for a certain length of time. In general, the duration of the pet boarding can vary from one night to a few month’s time. This service can be offered to a variety of pets, ranging anywhere from horses to hamsters. Pet boarding services usually include feeding, playing with the pets, training and other activities. With today’s technology, some boarding/day care centers have even installed web cameras so that you can watch your pet live on your computer while you are away to ensure that they are in the best hands. Pet boarding is a great option to consider.

Pet Daycare

Pet daycare is something quite different from pet boarding. Unlike with pet boarding, pet daycare services usually deal with taking care of the pets while the owners are at work or out for the day. At the end of the workday, the pet owners will pick their pets up from the pet daycare provider. Pet daycare services are often offered to dogs but can involve other animals as well. At pet daycare, the pets usually have everything they need from food bowls to toys and more. It is a great way for the dog or other animal to receive care and get to interact with other pets during the day.

Pet Spas

The current trend in pet care is pet spas. The main focus of pet spas is small animals like dogs, cats, ferrets, guinea pigs and rabbits. At pet spas, the pets are often trained, exercised, pampered and groomed. There are oftentimes do-it-yourself pet spas where the owners have to train and groom their own pets in order to improve the bond between them but the spa will provide the necessary space and grooming equipment such as the wash basin, shampoo and nail clippers. Whichever type of pet spa you choose, your pet is sure to love the pampering aspect to it.

If you are looking for pet care services, keep these previously mentioned services in mind and provide your pet with the best care possible. •

Redaksie

Onrealistiese verwagtinge is ‘n groot probleem.

Sterkte,
Julie Retief (Red)

MUNICIPALITY TO STAGE BEACH SPORTS PROGRAMME

The Mossel Bay Municipality will repeat the highly successful December beach sports programme of the past two years at the Santos Blue Flag beach from 4 December 2013 to 20 December 2013, the Municipality has announced.

The purpose of the programme is to provide recreational opportunities for young people as healthy alternatives to alcohol and drug abuse, crime, gangsterism and other social ills. Educational programmes on these issues will be presented concurrently with the sports programme.

The sports programme will be made up of a beach cricket tournament from 4 to 6 December, a beach soccer tournament from 11-13 December and a touch rugby tournament from 18 to 20 December 2013. The tournaments will be held from 10:30 to 15:30 on each of the days.
The matches will be played in the age categories of 10-14 years, 15-18 years and 18-35 years. Prize money will also be on offer.
In December 2012, when just cricket and soccer were played, a total of 52 teams participated in the events. The teams were comprised of an estimated 432 participants in total. The touchies is a new addition to the programme and because of its popularity it is expected to draw many more participants to the programme.

The programme is presented in conjunction with several local sports clubs, the SWD Cricket Board, the SA Police and the Department of Health.
Registration forms for the events are available at the Indoor Sports Centre in Extension 23 (next to the Roman Catholic Church). More information can be obtained from Yolandé van Aswegen at (044) 6065224 or 0822966199 or from Carlin Petersen at (044) 606-5224 or cpetersen@mosselbay.gov.za.

Mossel Bay Tourism calls for nominations to board

board-440x334

Mossel Bay Tourism has called for nominees to serve as directors of its board for the 2013/2014 term. The elections will take place at the company’s annual general meeting, which will take place in the Bravo Lounge of the Garden Route Casino at 11:00 a.m. on Friday the 22nd of November.
Chairperson of Mossel Bay Tourism, René Bongers. Mr. Bongers will stand down at the company’s AGM on Friday, 22 November, when members will consider the appointment of five elected directors.

Chairperson of Mossel Bay Tourism, René Bongers. Mr. Bongers will stand down at the company’s AGM on Friday, 22 November, when members will consider the appointment of five elected directors.

“Tourism remains one of the most important sectors of Mossel Bay’s economy, so it’s important that the tourism office is run by a strong, motivated, unified board,” said Mossel Bay Tourism’s Marcia Holm.

Mossel Bay Tourism is a not-for-profit company funded largely by the Municipality of Mossel Bay, and its board includes five elected members as well as four directors appointed by the Municipality – Alderman Emil Scheepers, Councillor Petru Terblanche, the municipal manager, Dr. Michele Gratz, and Suzette van Wyk, who represents emerging communities.

Elected directors must be fully paid up members of Mossel Bay Tourism, and must be nominated and seconded from within the sectors they’ll represent – hotels; self catering accommodation; guest houses and B&Bs; activities; and general business.

Unfortunately, said Ms. Holm, four of the elected directors who presently hold office have indicated that they won’t be available for reelection.

“We’re very grateful for the contributions of our chairperson, René Bongers, who represents the hotels; to Jauckie Viljoen, who represents the activities; to Koos Schutte, who represents the guest houses and B&Bs; and to our vice-chairperson, Ray Murray, who represents the business sector – and we thank them for their hard work over the years,” she said.

Self-catering representative Fred Orban has agreed to make himself available for reelection.

MEMORANDUM OF INCORPORATION

Ms. Holm said that the meeting will be asked to vote on a new Memorandum of Incorporation for Mossel Bay Tourism, which will replace the existing Articles of Association.

“This is necessary in order to comply with changes in the legislation, and to satisfy certain tax requirements,” she said. “But the new Memorandum is very similar to the Articles of Association, so it won’t have any impact on the day-to-day administration of the company.”

Ms. Holm said that the meeting would also receive and consider the annual financial statements, consider and approve the chairman’s report, and consider a motion to appoint the company’s auditors, Meyer Otto, for another year.

“Members should make every effort to attend the AGM – but if they can’t, they can exercise their rights by appointing a proxy to vote on their behalf.

“Proxy forms were attached to the notice of the AGM, which has been sent to members – and eligible members who want to appoint proxies must deliver their signed forms to our offices before 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday the 20th of November,” said Ms. Holm.

Travel Festival a huge success!

Mossel Bay Tourism is delighted with the results of its first Mossel Bay Travel Festival, and it’s already planning for next year’s event.

“The Festival exceeded our expectations, and set a new benchmark for our online marketing,” said Mossel Bay Tourism’s Marcia Holm. “This is definitely the way forward in the digital age.”

The Mossel Bay Travel Festival – hash-tagged on Twitter as #MBTravFest – was designed along the lines of the New York Travel Festival, and the two events are officially affiliated.

Roni Weiss – originator and organiser of the New York Travel Festival, whose flights to South Africa were sponsored by the Western Cape’s destination marketing, investment and trade promotion agency, Wesgro – said that the Mossel Bay Travel Festival was “a great start.”

The Festival included a day of discussions, a day of exhibitions, and a day of touring, and it attracted visitors from across the Province – and from Gauteng, too.

The event began with a Tourism Plenary that was hosted by the Western Cape’s MEC for Economic Development, Finance and Tourism, Alan Winde,

“The Festival was a mash-up of on-line and real world events, and we successfully live-streamed the Plenary from the Garden Court Mossel Bay on Friday, and also all the product presentations from The Granary in the Dias Museum Complex on Saturday,” said Ms. Holm.

This was the first Plenary to have been held outside of the Cape Peninsula – and the first one to have been broadcast on YouTube, with videos of the proceedings now archived at www.bit.ly/MBYTube.

“We tweeted and shared the presentations and other information about Mossel Bay all weekend via @GetMe2MosselBay and @MBayTourism, and we shared information about the exhibitors on VisitMosselBay on Facebook,” said Ms. Holm.

“This gave us immediate results and a surge of traffic to www.visitmosselbay.co.za, as well as a quick increase of about 20% in followers on @GetMe2MosselBay.”

Besides an on-line event, the Festival was also a real world trade and a consumer event, and Mossel Bay Tourism hosted a group of ten tour operators from Cape Town, whose four-day visit to the town was sponsored by Hylton Ross Exclusive Touring, and organised by Lindsey Gibaud, of Big Tree Marketing in Cape Town.

“I really fell in love with Mossel Bay,” said Ms. Gibaud. “I never knew that there was so much out here!”

She said that the members of the group discovered many products and attractions of which they were completely unaware, and that they would now send their guests to Mossel Bay with confidence.

Although the town will automatically be represented at the New York Travel Festival in 2014 because of the affiliation between the events, Mr. Weiss invited representatives of Mossel Bay Tourism to attend the Festival in person.

“The Travel Festival model is a great way to access the American market, and we’ll take Roni’s suggestion to our board for consideration,” said Ms. Holm.

“In the meantime, we’ve penciled in the 26th, 27th, and 28th of September, 2014, as the dates for the second Mossel Bay Travel Festival.”

Volvo defence excites Louis (the gremlin)

Durban – Louis Oosthuizen says he is excited to be defending his Volvo Golf Champions title at the Durban Country Club in January next year.

The Championship will return to Kwa-Zulu Natal for the second consecutive year and Oosthuizen said the news that Volvo had increased tournament prize money ahead of the event was good news for the tournament.

“It is fantastic for South Africa to get to host the European Tour’s ‘Tournament of Champions’ again,” Oosthuizen said on Tuesday.

“It is an impressive boost to the prize fund and I am delighted to be defending my title at the Durban Country Club.

“I love the course and enjoy the advantage of playing in front of my home crowd.

“I look forward to opening my season there very much.”

The event, reserved for European Tour players who have won an event on the previous year’s international schedule and current Tour Members with more than ten European Tour victories, will tee-off on January 9-12.

The prize fund will increase by more than 50%, from approximately $2.6 million in 2013, to $4 million next year.

Oosthuizen edged Scotland’s Scott Jamieson to win the title this year, having stormed back in the final round to shoot a six-under-par 66 and win the title by one stroke.
