Redaksie

Doen so voort.

Mossel Bay’s Mild Season: special getaway offers

Mossel Bay is gearing up for its Mild Season – with special offers, discounts, and packages to make mid-year holidays even more affordable.
“Mossel Bay’s Mild Season runs from the 1st of May to the 31st of August, and we chose the name advisedly – because the weather here really is pleasantly mild at that time of the year,” said Mossel Bay Tourism’s Marcia Holm.

“In fact, with more than 300 days of sunshine in every 365, almost every day’s a beach day in Mossel Bay.” (Official figures quote summer temperatures averaging 26°C during the day and 12° at night, with wintertime – May to August – averages at 19° in the day and 8° at night.)
Ms. Holm said that accommodation providers, adventure operators, and other businesses are collaborating to make the town as attractive as possible during the quieter months of the year.
“Some of our accommodation providers will be offering up to 50% discount, and they’ll also supply their guests with vouchers which will entitle them to significant discounts on various attractions, meals, and so on.”
Packages confirmed for participation include the 4-night ‘Coast to Mountain Crest,’ which features two nights at Sandpiper Cottages in Boggomsbaai, two nights at Eight Bells Mountain Inn, a boat trip on the Romonza, and other activities.
“The Protea Hotel Mossel Bay, Santos Express Train Lodge, Park House, Outeniqua Moon Percheron Stud & Guest Farm, Diaz Beach Haven, Aquamarine Guest House, ATKV-Hartenbos Strandoord, and At Whale-Phin Guest House will also be offering various discounts – and new offers and opportunities are rolling in all the time,” said Ms. Holm.
“And the activities and shopping are coming aboard, too – there’ll be 2-for-1 specials on scuba diving, dive courses and snorkelling from Electrodive, Garden Route Sailing will take you for a sail on the Bay at a reduced rate, and Tackle Shack will offer special discounts on certain purchases.
All participating products have been listed on www.visitmosselbay.co.za/special-offers/mildseason2014.

Local businesses that want to take part in the promotion are invited to do so by contacting Marcia Holm
manager@visitmosselbay.co.za or Zelda Sauls membership@visitmosselbay.co.za (or call 044 691 2202). “And it would be nice if they’d become members of Mossel Bay Tourism, too!” said Ms. Holm.

She made the point that each of the participants in the campaign will be offering different discounts or specials. “These are detailed on the site, and we urge guests to check with them individually when making enquiries,” she said.

SEDA – Small Enterprise Development Agency

On 19 March 2014 Seda had the launch of their new premises/offices in the centre of Mossel Bay .

A speaker at the launch MS …… explained that SEDA provides business development support to small enterprises ranging from start-ups to well established businesses. Many useful services are offered in partnership with specialized providers in the small enterprise support industry.

Entrepreneurs and potential entrepreneurs may approach SEDA to gain access to the business support services they would otherwise not be able to afford.

As a key agency within the stable of the Department of Trade and Industry, SEDA is tasked with implementing important elements of the government small business development strategy. SEDA therefore works closely with government agencies and provincial initiatives.

Some of the reasons why SEDA assists potential entrepreneurs would be:
– to stimulate and strengthen the local economy
– to encourage local prosperity
– to create jobs
– to reduce poverty
– to support efforts by local enterprises to deliver quality services and to produce quality products.
– to support enterprises which can supply individually designed and custom made local products.
– to support local businesses which form an integral part of SA’s distinctive character – and the tourism industry also benefits from this.

Potential entrepreneurs who are thinking of starting a business may apply to attend one of SEDA’s many training programmes; while business owners who are at the stage of planning to expand and are in need of specialized support may apply for SEDA to sponsor between 60% and 90% of the fees of an approved service provider.

It is not only independent business owners who may approach SEDA – specific programmes are geared towards cooperatives and franchisees too. SEDA also offers tender advice, networking and business linkages opportunities, technical support, export readiness assessment and productivity improvement.

To qualify for support, the entrepreneur must be 18 years and older, be able to run the business on a full-time basis, and have a valid SA Identity Document. The applicant must also pass credit checks and provide proof of residence.

Municipality wants to keep Buff

The Mossel Bay Municipality is eager to renew the contract with the Nomads Motorcycle Club for staging the annual Buffalo Rally in Mossel Bay for another three years.

In its reaction to a newspaper report the past weekend that this year’s Buffalo Rally might be the last in Mossel Bay, the Municipality says that it has already agreed in principle with the organisers on the terms for the renewal of the contract until 2017.
However, in terms of municipal procedure the Town Council has to give approval for the renewal of the contract. The matter is scheduled to be tabled at the General Council meeting on 24 April 2014.

“Although I cannot pre-empt the Council meeting, it is a fact that the Buffalo Rally has been a welcome economic injection for Mossel Bay over the past number of years. The Municipality benefits directly from the event as the Santos and De Bakke facilities are rented from the Municipality at a time of the year where they would otherwise have stood empty.

“The organisers make an annual donation to the Mayoral Fund, from which deserving causes are supported, while businesses from accommodation establishments to filling stations, restaurants and other food outlets and convenience stores benefit,” said the Executive Mayor, Alderlady Marie Ferreira.
She said it was the ninth year since 2005 that the Buffalo Rally had been held in Mossel Bay and a good working relationship has been developed with the organisers to ensure that everything runs smoothly. The 2014 rally went smoothly and no problems were experienced.

The event also serves to market the town and many of the bikers from other parts of the country return to visit Mossel Bay with their families, said the Mayor.

MUNICIPALITY INSPECTS PROPERTIES FOR WATER BY- LAW COMPLIANCE

water

Municipal inspectors have in the past few weeks inspected more than 1 500 properties in Boland Park, Bayview Hartenbos, Karoodorp and Strydomsoord for compliance with the By-Law on Water Services, which prohibits the discharging of rainwater into the municipal sewerage network. Notices to comply were issued to 125 property owners.

The inspections will be extended to other areas as well over the next few months. Property owners who fail to respond to the notices to comply will face legal action.

It is a contravention of the Municipality’s By-Law on Water Services to discharge rainwater into the Municipality’s sewerage network. An appeal is therefore made to owners of properties where this is done to correct their gutter systems so that the rainwater is not drained into the system.

The Municipality often experiences spills at sewer manholes during heavy rains, not because of blockages, but because water is discharged illegally into the sewerage system through roof gutter systems.

Statistics indicate that during heavy rains the inflow volumes into the system almost treble. The pumps in the sewerage system are not designed to handle such big volumes.

Enquiries in this regard can be directed to the Building Inspectorate at the Municipality at telephone (044) 606-5000

Wear your tekkies for a good cause

Home_Banner

Tekkie Tax 2013 exceeded all expectations by raising R2.4 million in their first year. More than 180 local welfare organisations benefited from the proceeds which were all distributed in November last year.
So where did the hearts of the people lie in 2013? 34% of the participating audience chose a C sticker, representing Children, making this the most supported sector!

The organisers of the campaign, The Marketing Team, received an overwhelming feedback of “Thank you” for organising such a seamless and no-risk fundraising campaign. Bev Seabourne of Highveld Horse Care said “Finally there is a national fundraising campaign where animals can also benefit and we are delighted to be part of it. But by caring for the horses and donkeys in the townships and rural areas we do so much more than looking after the animals. By educating the owners to keep the animals healthy we ensure that the family will have an income, children can get to school and water and coal can be carted. Viva Tekkie Tax!”

This year the Tekkie Tax team presents you with yet another opportunity to show where your heart lies on Friday, 30 May 2014. Members of the public are asked to get a Tekkie Tax sticker for a R10 donation from any of the participating welfare organisations. You can also order what you need directly from their website.

Depending on where your heart lies, you can choose any of the 5 sectors you would like to support when buying your sticker/s (and YES, you may choose more than one)
Animals,
Basic Family Care,
Children,
Disability or
Education

On Tekkie Tax day, you simply wear the big sticker on your lapel and put the small one on your cellphone to stay there for the rest of the year. Whatever your outfit is for the day, wear your tekkies!

You can even spiff up your tekkies by getting a pair of their funky shoelaces called “Tekkie Tags” (R30 including your sticker of choice)

The campaign is endorsed by 15 of our biggest and most accountable national NGOs in the country, representing more than 1 000 local organisations.
– Epilepsy SA
– Child Welfare SA
– SOS Children’s Villages
– CHOC (Childhood Cancer Foundation)
– Special Olympics SA
– Endangered Wildlife Trust
– HPCA – Hospice Palliative Care SA
– Pet Welfare SA
– Imisebeyelanga Services
– Meals on Wheels
– ACVV
– VVA
– Highveld Horse Care Unit
– Cheshire Homes SA
– AVF . . . and these are just the national beneficiaries!
Annelise de Jager, National project organiser said: “Saving money is always an important issue but saving money in a fundraising campaign is vital. With 15 national welfare organisations working together we are able to keep the costs of the project lower than any other campaign of its kind. We are not re-inventing the wheel but we are changing the face of fundraising in SA!”

All the beneficiary organisations render a service in South Africa. They have been selected, hand-picked and checked out carefully to ensure that no matter which sector you choose to support, your donation will be used in the best possible way.

Support the next Tekkie Tax day on Friday, 30 May 2014.

Here is the recipe to participate:
1. Get permission from your boss to participate in the Tekkie Tax campaign by wearing a pair of tekkies to work on Friday 30 May 2014. If you are the boss – sjoe I like this – then give yourself permission to do something good!
2. Get hold of the stickers (R10 donation each). You can also order stickers and promotional material via this website. Choose a beneficiary sector/s close to your heart or get one of each!!
Ensure that each of your colleagues have one – there is even a baby sticker to stick on your cell phone – how cool is THAT?
3. Wear your tekkies Now that you each have a sticker, show the world where your heart lies and wear your sticker and favourite pair of tekkies on Friday, 30 May 2014. Do it, take a stand – be bold!
4. Walk the extra mile by getting yourself one of our once-in-a-lifetime, designer pair of funky shoelaces with our fabulous set of tekkie tags and show the world that you have paid your tax for the benefit of your favourite welfare organisation. Get a pair of Tekkie Tags for a R30 donation (with a sticker of your choice included) Wear it proudly not to embarrass your tekkies!!!
