Pinnacle Cup
The 3rd Annual Pinnacle Cup was played out at Pinnacle Point this last weekend. Two teams representing South Africa and Europe compete for a floating trophy on an annual basis and is played in a Ryder Cup format.

The Saturday morning Foursomes saw the SA team take a slender lead before lunch. The lead was increased further after the afternoon Betterball had been completed, leaving an uphill task for the European team to win the Sunday Singles, to wrestle back the trophy that the SA team won last year. Unfortunately, there was no ‘Miracle at Medinah’ to be had and the SA team were victorious come Sunday afternoon.

The winner of the event was golf and good camaraderie. All the matches were closely contested and played in the true spirit of golf. Good fun was had by all the 36 players who participated and we hope that by the time we play next year’s event, we will be able to increase the team numbers to 24-a-side.

EXCITING NEWS FOR HARTENBOS

Hartenbos will soon host it’s own brand new parkrun. We hope that you have registered and experienced the beauty of parkrun before. Currently the closest parkrun is George parkrun. There are currently 49 parkruns in South Africa, starting every Saturday at 8am. Founded by Paul Sinton-Hewitt in 2004, the idea of parkrun grew from the initial Bushy parkrun event (originally called Bushy Park Time Trial) into a small collection of events called the UK Time Trials and then into parkrun (2010). Events now take place every week in Australia, Denmark, Ireland, New Zealand, Poland, Russia, South Africa, the United Kingdom and the United States. In South Africa parkrun enthusiasts have done over 3,4 million kilometres. The time spend on parkruns altogether in South Africa is over 51 years since it existence three years ago. There are almost 200’000 participants registered for parkrun SA.
We are starting our own local parkrun in Hartenbos. The starting date is 14 March 2015.

For our family who do not know what a parkrun is: parkrun is a FREE, weekly, 5km fun run\fun walk FOR ALL, not a race, which encourages a healthy lifestyle and community. It is an open event and everybody is invited, young and old, even if you are not a runner. The ONLY request we have is to register online and print and laminate your own bar code – if you want your results after every event. You can however still participate even though you did not register. Children, parents and grandparents are welcome! (Children under the age of 12 should be accompanied by an adult, unfortunately no dogs allowed).

Hartenbos parkrun depends on the community for its existence, as there is no entry fees involved. All work are done voluntarily and therefore we would like to request our community to get involved and also help as volunteers. If we can put together five groups of volunteers, consisting of 5 people each, we can all work a bit and also have the pleasure to participate a few weeks. The plan is to have one group working every fifth week, giving the other volunteer’s time to also do a parkrun or have an off weekend. The expected work will be from 7:30 on your working Saturday to do the setup of the start which is very easy and fast, maybe a couple of markers along the route and the finish line. There will be two timekeepers, an administrator and two scanners. After the run, which will be at the most 1.5 hours, the results will be uploaded to the PC and to the internet. Depending on the amount of runners this takes approximately 30 minutes to 1.5 hours.
