What is Power Factoring?
Power factor is the ratio between the kW and the kVA drawn by an electrical load where the kW is the actual load power and the kVA is the apparent load power. It is a measure of how effectively the current is being converted into useful work output and more particularly is a good indicator of the effect of the load current on the efficiency of the supply system.
By installing suitably sized switched capacitors into the power distribution circuit, the Power Factor is improved and the value becomes nearer to 1 or 0.98 thus minimizing wasted energy, improving the efficiency of a plant, liberating more kW from the available supply and saving you money!
Once in place, the cost of PFC can usually be recovered in less than 1 year.
Install and maintain your power supply
To maximize the lifespan of the PFC panel it is of utmost importance that the panel is correctly installed and maintained. Due to the nature of the design of the dielectric, the capacitor is sensitive to overheating and transients and is therefore important to keep track of the condition of the capacitors, either to measure the current or the capacitance of the phases and to keep records of these measurements. In case of a new installation or modifications to an existing installation, it is important to check that capacitors and transformer can not go into resonance if there are harmonics in the system.
E-Power can repair your existing PFC panel or supply and install a new unit to suit your requirements. It is also recommended to have your PFC installation serviced on a regular basis to prevent excessive damage to the PFC panel in case of any type of failure.
