BRAK RIVER ASTRONOMY CLUB

The first meeting of the Club for 2017 will take place at 7 pm at the Eden Country Inn on the R102 road, Little Brak River. This will coincide with the Club’s third Birthday. The attached flyer gives you the details of Jan Svensson’s talk and it is hoped that you will be able to attend.
THE 2017 SKY GUIDE is now available at Wordsworth Books in the George Mall. Cost per copy is R 129.00. An extremely useful publication.
THE PLANETARIUM SKY CHART. This is attached. Read the Notes at the bottom of the page. In summary, Venus will disappear by the month end & will become a bright pre-dawn “Star” in March.
“HAPPENINGS” IN FEBRUARY : 1st : Venus & Mars near the Moon at noon, 11th is Full Moon, 15th : Jupiter near the Moon, 17th : Venus at greatest brilliance, 26th : New Moon AND partial solar eclipse. NOTES : First contact at 14.58, maximum coverage at 17.59 and ends at 18.54. (Times given for Cape Town). Sunset is at about 19.00. No worthwhile Meteors showers this month.

WARNING !! Do not attempt to look at the Sun during this event. Instead, use the projection method – one half of a pair of binoculars projecting the image onto a white card.

GESAMENTLIKE VERKLARING DEUR MOSSELBAAI MUNISIPALITEIT

Die Munisipaliteit van Mosselbaai en mnr Colin Puren maak hiermee bekend dat ‘n skikkingsooreenkoms tussen die genoemde partye vir die herindiensneming van mnr Puren as Bestuurder: Strategiese Ondersteuning in die Kantoor van die Munisipale Bestuurder met ingang 1 Junie 2017 aangegaan is.

Dit sal vir ‘n tydperk van 37 maande tot en met mnr Puren se voorheen verkose aftree-ouderdom van 60 jaar wees. Dit bring ‘n einde aan die dispuut wat mnr Puren verklaar het oor sy ontslag uit die diens van die Munisipaliteit in Mei 2015.
“Ek kan maar net sê dat hierdie ‘n groot persoonlike verligting vir my en my gesin is.
Dit was ‘n moeilike tydperk, maar ek sien daarna uit om weer terug in diens van die Munisipaliteit te wees, en saam met die Munisipale Bestuurder, adv Thys Giliomee, te werk. Ek sal met dieselfde trots en oorgawe vir die Munisipaliteit, ‘n organisasie waarvoor ek steeds die hoogste agting het ondanks die gebeure van die laaste twee jaar, werk in my nuwe pos.
“Ek is ook dankbaar teenoor adv Giliomee dat hy die inisiatief geneem het om tot gesprekvoering en onderhandeling oor te gaan,” het mnr Puren gesê.
Adv Giliomee het gesê dit was in die beste belang van albei partye dat die saak geskik word. Hy verwelkom mnr Puren terug, en is vol vertroue dat hy goeie waarde tot die Munisipaliteit sal toevoeg.
Mnr Puren was voorheen die Direkteur van Gemeenskapsdienste van die Munisipaliteit.
