MUNICIPALITY TO STAGE BEACH SPORTS PROGRAMME

The Mossel Bay Municipality will repeat the highly successful December beach sports programme of the past two years at the Santos Blue Flag beach from 4 December 2013 to 20 December 2013, the Municipality has announced.

The purpose of the programme is to provide recreational opportunities for young people as healthy alternatives to alcohol and drug abuse, crime, gangsterism and other social ills. Educational programmes on these issues will be presented concurrently with the sports programme.

The sports programme will be made up of a beach cricket tournament from 4 to 6 December, a beach soccer tournament from 11-13 December and a touch rugby tournament from 18 to 20 December 2013. The tournaments will be held from 10:30 to 15:30 on each of the days.
The matches will be played in the age categories of 10-14 years, 15-18 years and 18-35 years. Prize money will also be on offer.
In December 2012, when just cricket and soccer were played, a total of 52 teams participated in the events. The teams were comprised of an estimated 432 participants in total. The touchies is a new addition to the programme and because of its popularity it is expected to draw many more participants to the programme.

The programme is presented in conjunction with several local sports clubs, the SWD Cricket Board, the SA Police and the Department of Health.
Registration forms for the events are available at the Indoor Sports Centre in Extension 23 (next to the Roman Catholic Church). More information can be obtained from Yolandé van Aswegen at (044) 6065224 or 0822966199 or from Carlin Petersen at (044) 606-5224 or cpetersen@mosselbay.gov.za.

Travel Festival a huge success!

Mossel Bay Tourism is delighted with the results of its first Mossel Bay Travel Festival, and it’s already planning for next year’s event.

“The Festival exceeded our expectations, and set a new benchmark for our online marketing,” said Mossel Bay Tourism’s Marcia Holm. “This is definitely the way forward in the digital age.”

The Mossel Bay Travel Festival – hash-tagged on Twitter as #MBTravFest – was designed along the lines of the New York Travel Festival, and the two events are officially affiliated.

Roni Weiss – originator and organiser of the New York Travel Festival, whose flights to South Africa were sponsored by the Western Cape’s destination marketing, investment and trade promotion agency, Wesgro – said that the Mossel Bay Travel Festival was “a great start.”

The Festival included a day of discussions, a day of exhibitions, and a day of touring, and it attracted visitors from across the Province – and from Gauteng, too.

The event began with a Tourism Plenary that was hosted by the Western Cape’s MEC for Economic Development, Finance and Tourism, Alan Winde,

“The Festival was a mash-up of on-line and real world events, and we successfully live-streamed the Plenary from the Garden Court Mossel Bay on Friday, and also all the product presentations from The Granary in the Dias Museum Complex on Saturday,” said Ms. Holm.

This was the first Plenary to have been held outside of the Cape Peninsula – and the first one to have been broadcast on YouTube, with videos of the proceedings now archived at www.bit.ly/MBYTube.

“We tweeted and shared the presentations and other information about Mossel Bay all weekend via @GetMe2MosselBay and @MBayTourism, and we shared information about the exhibitors on VisitMosselBay on Facebook,” said Ms. Holm.

“This gave us immediate results and a surge of traffic to www.visitmosselbay.co.za, as well as a quick increase of about 20% in followers on @GetMe2MosselBay.”

Besides an on-line event, the Festival was also a real world trade and a consumer event, and Mossel Bay Tourism hosted a group of ten tour operators from Cape Town, whose four-day visit to the town was sponsored by Hylton Ross Exclusive Touring, and organised by Lindsey Gibaud, of Big Tree Marketing in Cape Town.

“I really fell in love with Mossel Bay,” said Ms. Gibaud. “I never knew that there was so much out here!”

She said that the members of the group discovered many products and attractions of which they were completely unaware, and that they would now send their guests to Mossel Bay with confidence.

Although the town will automatically be represented at the New York Travel Festival in 2014 because of the affiliation between the events, Mr. Weiss invited representatives of Mossel Bay Tourism to attend the Festival in person.

“The Travel Festival model is a great way to access the American market, and we’ll take Roni’s suggestion to our board for consideration,” said Ms. Holm.

“In the meantime, we’ve penciled in the 26th, 27th, and 28th of September, 2014, as the dates for the second Mossel Bay Travel Festival.”

HYATT REGENCY OUBAAI CELEBRATES LIFE

Milissa Els Karools Hauptfleisch Sandra Kneubeuhler

GEORGE (October 2013) – On 11 November 2013 the Hyatt Regency Oubaai Golf Resort and Spa will be celebrating life in the best way possible.  The ‘Celebrate Life’ fun walk will be hosted by the Hyatt Regency Oubaai aimed at raising funds for two charitable causes…another first of its kind added to the list of firsts already rolled out by this five star resort.  The funds raised by this walk will be allocated to the Carpe Diem School and to the Garrett Ehrman Support Group.

Garrett Ehrman arrived home on Sunday, 5th October and will continue his recovery from a disastrous car accident in September. Garrett sustained serious head and chest injuries and his recovery will be a long and costly process.  He has no medical aid and the Hyatt Regency Oubaai subsequently decided to allocate some of the funds raised by the fun walk to help with Garrett’s vast medical expenses.
The Hyatt Regency Oubaai also recently announced that it has taken on the Carpe Diem School as its official social responsibility project for 2014. This school for children with special needs only receives a minimal subsidy per learner from the government and therefore it has to lean heavily on donations and fundraising events.  The fact that the Hyatt Regency Oubaai will be supporting Carpe Diem over the next year was received with great excitement by the passionate headmaster, Karools Hauptfleisch.  Part of the funds raised by the ‘Celebrate Life’ fun walk will be allocated to the school and will most definitely be used where most needed.

Although this is only the first ‘Celebrate Life’ fun walk, the Hyatt Regency Oubaai already expects in excess of 300 participants. This event will take place at the Hyatt Regency Oubaai with its stunning natural landscape and the setting alone will without a doubt surpass the expectancy of everybody taking part. The festive atmosphere will be amplified by the smell of boerewors grilling on open fire, a beer tent and live entertainment of note!

By starting with this great initiative the Hyatt Regency Oubaai hopes to invest in the lives of those in need.  The first two charitable causes were identified and in future many more in need will be helped. Margaret Mead said “Never believe that a few caring people can’t change the world. For, indeed, that’s all who ever have”. Join in on the fun and festivities and help the Hyatt Regency Oubaai to make a difference. Celebrate Life!

WELLNESS EXPO PLANNED FOR LOCAL BUSINESSES

wellness2012dayoct13

The Mossel Bay Municipality will be hosting its second international No-More-Victim Summit, of which a 2-day Wellness Expo will form part.

This Expo is planned not only for local businesses, but also for employees of Government Departments in Mossel Bay. It will take place on 21 November 2013 in the Town Hall from 08:00 to 12:00 and on 22 November 2013, also from 08:00 to 12:00, at the Indoor Sports Centre in KwaNonqaba. Local providers of health products and services are invited to participate in the events on these days by means of product exhibitions or services at the event.
The purpose of the event is to demonstrate the Municipality’s commitment to the themes of Gender-Based Violence, of which general wellness is an underlying value. It is also to raise awareness amongst members of the community and the business sector about the benefits of physical and emotional wellness.

The main goal is to involve as many as possible public and private health-service and -product providers that can make a contribution of any kind to the health, emotional and or financial wellness of our community members. These include local gymnasiums, eye care enterprises, dieticians, etcetera, to name but a few. Participants will be given the opportunity to exhibit their products and/or services by way of information brochures, pamphlets on special offers, product samples etc.

Providers who are interested in participating in the event can contact Ms Corlia Wagenaar at (044) 606-5108 or e-mail at cwagenaar@mosselbay.co.za, before 5 November 2013. •

‘n Twede Huwelik

‘n Tweede huwelik is nogmaals ‘n geleentheid vir ‘n nuwe begin –  ‘n tweede kans vir liefde.

Eerstens, neem jou aanstaande se kinders in ag.
