Andries Cilliers, a volunteer student from Aardvark Nature College, has joined Pinnacle
Conservation’s internship program in 2013, and is now currently busy with a very exciting
program. For most people it seems like the craziest project to take on, but Andries passion
for snakes drives this project. He is currently busy identifying snakes on the PetroSA Nature
Reserve, and taking frequent walks in the veld searching for snakes to identify. He has
already listed 53 known species of snakes on the reserve and he is going strong. The snakes
that he ID’s ranges from non-venomous to venomous snakes.
Andries is also busy setting up a presentation on these snakes, including do’s and don’ts
when a snake is spotted as well as first aid and medical treatment and he is passionate
about snake conservation and also understands the importance of education that goes
along with it. His love and passion for snakes is so tangible and the children love to listen
and interact with him. Thank you for your hard work and courage Andries. Andries has a
snake removal permit which enables him to assist with uninvited snakes. He will assist with
that and he can be reached on the following number: 044 601 3149 or 084 569 1510.
