Dit moet goeie ultra violet ( UV ) beskerming he

GROOTBRAK GRABADOO – Holiday Fun

Great Brak is the place to be on Saturday, 30 December 2017!

Why? Because Grootbrak Grabadoo, of course! Families will, for the 15th year running, be able to enjoy heaps of active fun during the 2017 Grootbrak Grabadoo.

This iconic event will like always offer all the top-class mountain bike family fun with breath-taking routes through some of the most beautiful flora in Garden Route. The only change is that the event is taking place a day earlier, on 30 December 2017, to respect the Sunday activities of the Great Brak community.

The routes for this year’s Grabadoo will be the same as the previous year with a 4.8km Fun Walk around Great Brak River during which runners, walkers, families and even pets can participate.

Mountain bikers can again choose between four routes; a 15 km, 36 km, 53 km and 71 km, all of which have been professionally laid out and tested with a tremendous amount of passion and attention to details.

Entry fees for the specific routes are as follows – 15km @ R90; 36km @ R130; 53km @ R140; 71km @ R150.

Walkers enter @ R40 for the 4.8km walk. With the support of the local business sector participants will also be able to enter at Coimbra Cycle House York street George, WeFix Garden Route Mall and De Kaap Properties in Lang street, Great Brak River or online at http//:www.onlines.co.za.

PARTY RESPONSIBLY, MATRICS

As matriculants move towards the conclusion of a tough exam period there is much anticipation of the holidays and parties to follow. Several big parties and festivals are being planned across the country for matrics.

“Sadly, every year there are incidents of matric deaths through road accidents, drinking, drug overdosing and more. There are also numerous incidents of theft of valuable items and vandalism. We are appealing to matrics to party responsibly and never neglect their own personal safety,” says Peter Kruger, district manager (Coastal Outlying branches) for Fidelity ADT Security.

He offers these easy safety tips for matrics who will be celebrating away from home in a possibly unfamiliar area.

Before leaving your accommodation for the day or night, ensure that anything valuable is locked away in a drawer or safe.
Never carry large amounts of cash or go out wearing flashy or expensive jewellery.
If your accommodation is a holiday house or apartment, make sure all the doors are locked, the windows are properly shut and that the alarm is activated if a system is installed.
When out at different events and activities, be aware of your surroundings and arrange with your friends to keep an eye on each other and your belongings.
If you are approached by a suspicious individual; walk away and report it to the closest security or to the police.
Do not accept drinks from strangers and do not leave your drinks unattended. Spiking of drinks is still rife.

When it is time to return to your accommodation after a night out:

Never leave without your friends.
Do not accept a lift from a stranger; rather use transport provided by the event organisers.
Driving after a few drinks is never an option. Call a cab or use event shuttles if they are available instead.
Consider appointing a designated driver or someone who agrees not to drink and will be responsible for getting everyone home safely.

“Parents, please speak to your kids and share these tips with them. The reality is that matrics will be partying. Let’s encourage them to do it as responsibly as possible. It may also be worth speaking to your security provider about personal safety apps that are available as well as services such as Meet and Greets to ensure peace of mind,” he concludes.

HOT SUMMER OF TOUCH SERIES

Score Energy Drink teams up with Living Legends for Hot Summer of Touch.
Score, one of South Africa’s most popular energy drinks and supporter of grassroots sport development including touch rugby in the Western Cape, will be a proud flag bearer at the Hot Summer of Touch series during December.

The 17th Hot Summer of Touch series held on the beaches of the Western and Southern Cape coast, consists of eight tournaments kicking off in Camps Bay on 9 December and ending on Diaz Beach in Mossel Bay on 30 December. With over 400 teams taking part in the series, this is a highlight on the holiday calendar.

As the sponsor of four Score Living Legends teams entered each year for the Hot Summer of Touch beach circuit, the energy drink brand helps this Stellenbosch based youth development organisation to double their power in surrounding communities, changing lives through sport.

The Score Living Legends Junior, Open, Ladies and Professional (Pro) teams are all regular participants in the Hot Summer of Touch. Score has played an integral part in supporting these touch rugby teams since 2013.

“It’s an honour for us to play a part in Living Legends’ main focus of contributing toward the empowerment of South African communities. In line with Score’s mantra of ‘double YOUR power’, the brand hopes to inspire people to develop their potential and build better lives for themselves and those around them” says Brand Manager James Shaw, reinforcing Score’s commitment to nurture and support young people to become leaders and make a difference in their own lives and their communities.

Living Legends has identified a passion for touch rugby in the Helderberg area and together with Caylix Sport, offers youths between the ages of 10 and 24 constructive activities, a sense of belonging and hope for the future.

With Score’s support, the interest in touch rugby has grown substantially and the touch rugby culture is now well established in all the areas where Living Legends have a foothold. By supporting Living Legends, Score Energy helps the non-profit organisation untap the potential of young people in the greater Stellenbosch community through the development of sport and life skills.

In the spirit of paying it forward, the Score Living Legends Pro team, victors of the Hot Summer of Touch series for the past four years, will be hosting a rugby clinic in Klein Brak Rivier on 27 December. Inspired by their enthusiastic fan base, the Pro team players have become role models for children in their area and the touch rugby community in the Western Cape as a whole. It is no wonder fans call Score Energy South Africa’s “unity drink”. (Nadia 021 462 0520)

PERSONALITY OF THE WEEK – Salomi Prinsloo

What is your current occupation?
I am an artist, living and working in Pretoria who regularly retreat to Stilbaai for inspiration as well as to nurture my artist’s soul.

What motivates you?
Growing up on a farm in the Orange Free State had a huge impact on my personal development, my value system and the development of my artwork. My passion for, and respect of life which I learned at a very early age on the farm still motivates me to this day.

Name one thing that always peaks your interest.
I love to learn something new and to visit new places. If I could, I would have been a professional tourist, traveling the world most of the time.

What is the stupidest thing you’ve ever done?
Embarking, by mistake on a black diamond ski slope, with only 15 min of ski training as a very young art student, visiting the Alps for the first time.

What “useless” talent do you have that nobody knows about?
I can bake the most delicious sourdough bread and old fashioned boerbeskuit.

If you could take over one person’s job for a week, who’s would it be and why?
I would love to run a resort on a beautiful island surrounded by competent staff, in peaceful and tranquil surroundings. I would like to bask in the peaceful, stylish and tranquil surroundings.

If you won a Million, how would you spend it?
I would make sure I have enough for my families needs and to sustain my own current lifestyle then spend the rest on missionary work and relief aid.

What are your hobbies and interests?
I am fascinated by recent research on the impact of a healthy lifestyle and nutrition on longevity and wellness. I am amazed at how much we can change if we accept responsibility for our health and implement different choices.

What is your favourite restaurant and meal?
My favourite restaurant is Capeesh, an Italian restaurant in Pretoria who serves the most delicious roasted salmon on a bed of rocket. I love Italian food, especially the socialising aspect, accompanying their meal times to provide a time of intimate connection for family and friends.

If you had one wish from a “genie” what would you wish for?
I would wish for poverty and all forms of violence to be eradicated from the face of the world.

Tell us some interesting facts about yourself.
I love to connect with people, and often do, however I also desperately need times of privacy to connect with myself, recharge, and find my artistic purposes and expression. I can not do this when I am surrounded by people.

What is your message to the Community of Hessequa?
Do not allow anyone to define you, except your Maker. Also do not let circumstances define you, instead choose your attitude and let your attitude define the outcome of your circumstances.

KOM KYK EERS KUNS EN VIER DAN VERDER FEES! (Stilbaai)
